Master Jim Boozer is a 7th Dan in Tae Kwon Do. Master Boozer’s karate training began in the fall of 1960 at Oklahoma State University under the direction of Alan Lee, a graduate student at that university and a Japan-trained Shotokan black belt. After completing his university degree he moved to Arlington, Texas, and put his training on hold for several years.
Master Boozer began studying Tae Kwon Do in 1980 and received his 1st Dan Black Belt in 1987 from Dr. Brax Boyd. In 2011, he received his 6th Dan from Grandmaster Brax Boyd. He received his 7th dan on September 9, 2017. His teaching career began as a brown belt in 1982, and, as a black belt, has taught more than 2,000 students, and awarded over 60 black belts.
He has also studied Judo and Ju-Jitsu and has added many of these techniques to his self-defense techniques. Master Boozer has officiated in various capacities in the majority of the tournaments held by the Traditional Karate League, hundreds of kata and kumite matches, in positions of timekeeper, scorekeeper, judge, and head referee.
Brenda Boozer’s Tae Kwon Do training began in the fall of 1992 at the Grand Prairie Karate Academy. She earned her 1st degree black belt in August of 2007 at the Lake Arlington Karate Academy.
For the past 15 years, she has acted as a scorekeeper and/or timekeeper at numerous tournaments. During the past six years Mrs. Boozer has taught over 500 students, provided administrative support to the Lake Arlington Karate Academy, and continued to study and learn new techniques.. Brenda is now a 4th Degree Black Belt (Sandan).
Master Ballard is a native of Dallas, Texas, and holds an Associate's Degree in Science from Mountain View College. He also holda a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas with 3 majors: Electronics, Biology, and Health. He is a graduate of Dale Carnegie and a Network Engineer for Northrup Grumman.
Master Ballard started in Ju-Jitsu, were he achieved the rank of 3rd Brown and then he went on to work out and train under Master Rhodex Fuller. He helped Mr. Fuller with the teaching of the class. He also helped in the writing of the instructional booklet as well as assisting in the design and the layout of the logo and course curriculum.
Through 29 years of teaching, he has met, trained, and participated in other disciplines which include Tae Kwon-do, Kenpo, Aikido, Hapkido, S.P.I.K.E. training, SCARS training, Kung Fu, Kali and Gracie Ju-Jitsu.
He currently holds the rank of Shichidan, 7th degree Black Belt in Shotokan.
Lovella Hayden is a 4th degree black belt (Sandan) and one of the original students at LAKA. She has taught hundreds of students at all belt levels.
She is a certified fitness instructor and has taught various forms of dance and fitness for more than 30 years. Her experience in dance, aerobics, yoga, Pilates, strength training, stretching and toning makes for interesting class warm-ups at LAKA.
She has been a competitor, judge and referee at area Karate tournaments. Lovella loves teaching marital arts because it promotes physical fitness, builds confidence, self-discipline, focus, and a positive "I Can" attitude.
Sean Mullins is a 3rd degree black belt, and has been training at the Lake Arlington Karate Academy for 10 years. Sean enjoys teaching people the skills to defend themselves. Sean is an active member in the Texas Karate League as Judge, Referee, Scorekeeper, and Timekeeper.
